What’s In Season?

Hi Jessica,

I would like to start buying more Michigan-grown produce.  Could you please let me know what Michigan-grown vegetables are available each month?

Thanks,
Cathy

Dear Cathy,

Good question - it’s great to buy fresh Michigan-grown produce!  It tastes better and it’s good for the local economy.  I contacted The Michigan Vegetable Council, Inc. and they provided the following helpful information as to what Michigan-grown vegetables are available each month:

Asparagus:  May & June
Broccoli:  July – October
Cabbage:  End of June - December
Cantaloupe:  August & September
Carrots:  End of July - November
Cauliflower:  July - October
Celery:  June – Mid-October
Cucumbers:  July - September
Green Beans:  End of June - September
Lettuce:  June - October
Onions*:  January – March, September - December
Peppers:  Mid-July –September
Potatoes*:  January – May, July - December
Pumpkins:  September & October
Radishes:  End of May – Beginning of November
Summer Squash:  July - September
Strawberries**:  June
Sweet Corn:
Mid-July - September
Tomatoes:  Mid-July – Mid-October
Watermelon:  August & September
Winter Squash:  September - November

*Potatoes and onions are available during the winter months because they are stored.
** Urka Farms provided this information.

Thanks!
Jessica
