The Growth of a Seed

by Lisa Bousson

The seed was planted many years ago.  You kept the seed in fertile soil, peeking at it every once in a while to make certain it was still there, safe and sound.  Then, dormant for years, the seed has begun to sprout new growth because of the nurturing it has been given by your optimistic mind.

Long ago you would have said that the seed was a waste of time and effort.  It has long since lost its appeal.  Or, it’s so old it has no use to me now.  Remember the dreams that you once had?  The dreams of you becoming someone whom others would look up to and admire?  Remember the times you laid to rest as a child dreaming of all the wonders of the universe?  The possibilities were endless.  These were the seeds left untended in the fertile soil.  But, fertile soil alone will not ensure growth unless the garden is tended properly and given nourishment.

Out of necessity, our lives and livelihoods are changing with the times.  Due to corporate downsizing, many people are finally doing what their soul has been urging them to do for years.  We start to see the synchronicity all around us, guiding us, and we again begin to think of that long-lost seed.  “What if…?”

What is most difficult for many is the internal shift from being who your job tells you are to someone new.  You no longer are your job title.  You may have lost your sense of self, even possibly, your self-worth.  But, that long lost seed has sprouted and the plant is peeking its head through the fertile soil.  Long ago you never had the opportunity to nurture the seed to see if the plant could grow to full height and bear fruit – now you do.  Therefore, you learn to fertilize, water and weed the garden, caring for the new life that it has just begun.

Once you look beyond your past and begin to develop your future you still must follow where you’re being lead.  There will be highs and lows as you develop and urge the new growth to flourish.  There may be changes and revisions to be made.  This is when the ugly weeds of doubt arise.  You ask yourself if you’re on the right pathway.  Do I have what it takes to make this happen?  Not knowing where you’ll end up has caused this fear.  These are the seeds of doubt - false seeds of our ego.  Know that you’re being guided, or pushed, by a force higher than yourself, leading you to your next goal.  Throw your arms in the air and surrender to the higher force that’s steering you onto the right pathway.

You’ll know in your heart when you’re headed in the right direction.  You can feel it.  We may even be able to foresee the outcome – and it’s going to be grand!  We fully understand that we’re following the urgings of our soul.  Soon, we will see that our little seed has grown into a thing of great beauty because we gave it the attention it needed to flourish.  We now understand that when we’re in alignment with our soul path, we learn to think outside of the box, and in doing so create greatness.
