Coming Home

With the holiday season fast approaching, loved ones from all over the country will be making the trek home for their annual get-togethers.  Many look forward to this time of year to share food and fellowship with family and friends. While this tradition epitomizes the words “coming home,” these words can mean something different for everyone.

As I write this, I sit warm and toasty in my bed with two of my girls snuggled up and giggling beside me. My oldest daughter is downstairs practicing her trumpet; its rhythmic tempo mixes along with the sweet trill of the violin that my husband is playing in the next room. It is a cool, breezy fall evening with the scent of winter in the air. Our windows are open wide and the last of the season’s crickets are singing their little hearts out - ahh the essence of home. “Coming home” for me embodies the familiar sights, sounds and smells of everyday living that make my heart sing and reminds me to cherish the quiet, cozy moments along with life’s grander events.

When you think about it, “coming home” can also be a life-long endeavor for many on the path of personal discovery. Through spiritual growth we can all become open to the possibilities of coming home to ourselves, to our creator and to the divine light that shines bright in all of us. This can only lead us to gifts that we were each so purposefully given – ours to discover and ours to send out so lovingly into the world.

It is with great pleasure that we welcome Stewart Francke to our front cover this month. We are very excited about sharing his inspiring story with you and hope you enjoy reading about this Michigan native and his love of music. Please look for more Michigan faces and the gifts they offer to the world to grace our covers in issues to come in 2009.

So whether you are coming home for the holidays, coming home to your divine self, to the music within or just coming home after a long hard day, we at the journal would like to take this opportunity to say welcome home!
