Dreams Do Come True
by Joanne M. lrwin
Fifteen years ago, at the age of 50, I started to dream of having my own business as a travel companion and caregiver to the elderly. It was a dream so real I could almost reach out and touch it and so vivid it gave me the name of my business.
It stayed with me until I found the courage to try it. I knew I had the qualifications. I had graduated from travel school and had worked as a tour escort for seniors, so I started making brochures and advertised in the classified ads. Clients started calling and I did some traveling and had many fun experiences. Just as it looked like my dream was starting to come true, I was stopped by challenges. The main challenge was not having enough clients to pay my bills. A little discouraged, I went back to my old job, still managing to travel a little with clients during my off time.
Then, a year ago last November, life decided it was time for a wake up call; time to make some real changes in my life. Since I was not willing to do this on my own, the Universe decided it would help me. I thought life was rolling along just fine. In five months, three major events got my attention. I fell and injured my rotator cuff, needing total shoulder reconstruction, a wonderful 20-year relationship fell apart and I lost half of my hearing. How many times did I have to hit rock bottom to get the message that my life was not working?
By March of 2006, life was looking rather bleak. Unable to work, not enough money to get my shoulder repaired, needing hearing aids, lonely and suffering from a broken heart, I created a full blown negative pity party. A victim of circumstances, I cried so much my tear reservoirs ran dry. At a very low point in my life, a dear friend called. She happened to be a motivational speaker and very concerned about my negative thinking and outlook on life. When that phone call was over, I felt like I had been hit in the head by a baseball bat. But it worked!!! My friend said, "You are a survivor and you will get through this if you change your attitude, be grateful for what you do have and start thinking that life will get better if you take action and move in a positive direction." My thinking had shifted. I looked around and saw my old brochure. I always had one laying around thinking "if only I could make this work." I picked it up and read it again and again and that brochure took on a life of it's own. The message inside took on a whole new concept.
I started attending an ongoing class in A Course In Miracles, and saw the movies What The Bleep and The Secret. I learned that everything has to do with the way we think. What we think about now is what our future holds for us. Be grateful for what we have. Think positive and the Law of Attraction will make it happen. We are in control of our destiny. Think negative, you get negative results, think positive and the results are endless.
My finances improved, as did the reconstruction of my shoulder. My hearing was restored with the help of hearing aids and with forgiveness, I salvaged my 20-year relationship as a lovely friendship.
The Universe is responding and I am living the dream that waited for me to get on the right track. The right business people have come into my life. In return for helping a friend, he, a webmaster and his friend, a graphic designer, gave me help for free. I also received six press releases to publicize my new business free of cost. All this has happened within nine months.
So pay attention to your dreams, there could be a message waiting for you. My message was to be a world travel companion caregiver for mature adults. As you can see, dreams do come true.
