Clutter Clearing for Energy

by Kimberly Struthers

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by the mountains of unorganized “stuff” in your basement or arrived at work completely energized only to experience an instantaneous drop in energy upon walking into your cluttered office? If so, you are not alone!

Having a lot of unwanted or unorganized material possessions seems to be very common and even though projects like organizing your basement or office may seem insurmountable, they’re not. Experiencing the discomfort of clutter can serve as a wake up call to become more conscious of how you live and what you choose to accumulate.

Clutter, by definition, includes everything that no longer gives energy back to you. The sweater you received as a Christmas gift two years ago that still sits in its box is clutter, along with those candleholders that have never looked very good in any room of your home. Even though the previous examples are items that don’t necessarily occupy much space, the fact that you’re hanging onto something that doesn’t work in your lifestyle, or home, makes it clutter. Hanging onto items that you really don’t like also sends a message to yourself that you don’t deserve to surround yourself with the things you love. If these scenarios sound familiar, a little clutter clearing may do your personal energy level a world of good.

According to Feng Shui expert Denise Linn, a person’s clutter can easily drain and deplete energy. She furthers states that if the things in your home are not being used, do not offer inspiration or bring joy; letting them go can be a soul-fulfilling experience. I, along with many others, can attest to the transformative power of clutter clearing.

I just recently cleared, cleaned, and organized my entire basement. It is the first time in my adult life that I can honestly say this project is done! Ironically, within one week after I finished my basement project I became clear about the new professional direction I want to pursue. This is a decision that I have not been able to make for almost a year because I lacked clarity. Coincidence? Perhaps, but I have had other breakthroughs of similar magnitude when coupled with clutter clearing activities. I gained so much energy from this experience that I have inspired my friends to do the same process in needed areas of their homes. Needless to say, they also are experiencing positive energy movement in their lives.

The power of creating organized, functional spaces cannot be overstated. Every aspect of your life is anchored energetically in your living space; therefore, clearing your clutter can completely transform your existence. The key is to start small and start now. Even small transformations can reap huge rewards and once you start, I’ll guarantee, you won’t be able to stop.
