Remembering

by Diantha Harris, FSII, ASID, IACT

Since the theme of this issue of HGJ is Remembering, I was intrigued to reflect on this and to see how the colors of the rainbow can help us to re-connect, to re-view, and to re-member.

The first colors that came to mind were the colors of the blue family including blue, indigo and purple. Purple and indigo are perfect colors to use for reflection as they connect us or re-connect us to our intuition and to our memory. We can use these colors during meditation or periods of reflection. Their quiet, deep shades direct us inward and provide the peace of blue to create the atmosphere of reflection.

The next color that comes up for me is green. Green is the color of the heart and provides for us the pathway that connects us to those memories that we hold in our hearts. The people, places, pets and occasions that we have stored there can be easily accessed when we call on green.

Yellow, the color of joy, is another ally as we go about the process of remembering. Yellow helps us feel the joy of times remembered and of the people and places that pepper our memories.

Orange is another color that provides for us many qualities. Orange helps us heal those parts and pieces of our lives that we all have in which we have wounds and/or regrets. In addition, orange helps us connect to really deep bliss and it is also the color of connection itself!

Red helps us ground all of our memories and the feelings, thoughts and emotions around them. It gives our intentions energy and focus and helps us manifest the process of remembering.

How do we use these colors? We can use them with every day items including flowers, clothing, dishes, towels, rugs, scarves, ties, bedding, and household accessories. We can use them with consciousness and intention. We can use them throughout every day as they surround every breathing moment we have. We can use them to remember, to repair, and to reconnect. Aren’t we blessed to have color so available to us as a powerful ally!
