Each Day A New Creation

by Charlotte Irwin

Fortunately, we all have a chance at new beginnings each day. Every morning we have a choice about the day we are going to create and how we are going to create it. How do you choose to create your day?

In the morning is it coffee and doughnuts while rushing out the door? Better to take a few moments of quiet gratitude to your creator. Or take time to accept and forgive what happened yesterday. Practice a moment of stillness and connect to your higher self. Prepare a good breakfast of fresh fruit, yogurt - or even better - a green drink.

What is your schedule like today: hectic plans, shopping and errands? What about setting aside time to eat lunch slowly and consciously? Take a long breath and a moment of silence between projects, know that things will get done and don’t have to be “squeezed” in. The world won’t end if you forget to recharge your cell phone. Too busy, try delegating or asking for help – you don’t have to control everything.

What are you going to do today when someone upsets you? Lash out, or just take a breath and not take it personally? Are you going to exercise mercy and compassion instead of anger? Try understanding where the other person is coming from before responding with intense emotion.

What will you choose to be your attitude today? Focus on your goals and ignore gossip or small talk. Leave your work where it belongs at the end of the day. Listen more and talk less. Offer a smile to those who may not favor you. Know you can change your choice of not being joyful to joyful being.

What will your evening look like? Prepare a home cooked meal. Read a good book. Have a great conversation at dinner. Initiate a loving closure to the day through your prayers.

The first step to any new beginning or positive change in our lives is awareness. We have to know where we are currently to begin anew. The more we question why we do what we do, the easier it is to choose to act differently. It’s only the beginning, but a very big first step!
