Why Should I Consider Having a Colonic?

by Diane Simmons

Colon therapy is not commonly considered an alternative means to vibrant health. Most often, it has never been heard of. When a prospective client first hears of colon therapy the most common statements made are “You’ve got to be kidding me! You want me to put what? Up where?”

The idea of inserting a rectal tube into one’s own body seems to put off many people from receiving the benefits of upper colon cleansing. If individuals clearly understood the advantages of colonics they might make them part of their alternative health practice.

Egyptians had more understanding of colon hydrotherapy than most people do today. Both the Ebers Papyrus of the 14th century B.C. and the Edwin Smith Papyrus of 1700 B.C. mention enemas and give directions for the use of the enema.

Also, the Essene Gospel of the third century B.C. mentions “the uncleanness within.”

And though it may be hard to believe, the 17th Century became known as the “age of enema,” or the “age of clysters.” It was an acceptable practice in Parisian society to enjoy as many as three or four enemas a day, the belief being that an internal washing or “lavement” was essential to well-being.

Now, of course, the number of colon hydrotherapy sessions desired will depend on the individual himself and not the following of Parisian practice.

Every person’s goals will differ. Just as some people exercise on a daily or weekly basis to tone and tighten their outer body, some people follow an ongoing cleansing, toning and rebuilding regime for the inner body. Colon hydrotherapy could be used as part of any regular maintenance program that fits the individual’s needs.

Contrary to what most people may imagine, a colon hydrotherapy session is usually a comfortable 45 minute experience which could easily be worked into a monthly health routine.

During a session, most clothing can be kept on and the client is draped or, if preferred, a gown may be worn to ensure modesty and dignity.

Then comes that “nasty” part about the tube… This tube is used one time only—by you, and it is inserted into the rectum approximately two inches. The insertion of the sterilized rectal tube produces no pain or toxicity.

Techniques utilized allow a small amount of water to flow gently into the colon, stimulating the colon’s natural peristaltic action to release softened waste. The inflow of a small amount of water and the release of waste may be repeated several times.

This removal of waste encourages better colon function and elimination and, thus, better health.

Besides removing toxic material, colon therapy helps to exercise the colon muscles. This helps to speed up the transit time of digested food in the colon and improve peristalsis.

It also stimulates reflex points in the colon, to which all body organs are connected. This affects the corresponding body parts, organs, tissues, glands. It further hydrates our bodies, which means our cells absorb this water to dilute toxins.

Most of all, nutrition absorption is improved and what you eat is better assimilated.

Two well known health advocates and authors, Gary Null (Gary Null’s Ultimate Anti-Aging Program) and Kevin Trudeau (Natural Cures They Don’t Want You To Know About) highly recommend colonics and claim they help stop the signs of aging and disease. These benefits, in and of themselves, are worth the price of insertion.
