Reiki Helps Heal Puppy Dying from Parvo-Influenza

by L. Sabrina DeVaney

On the afternoon of Tuesday December 22, 2004 as I was listening to messages on the answering machine I heard my dear friend Nancy's voice. She was crying and asked me to please call her right away. I did. Nancy explained to me her 3-month old puppy "Chief" was left at the veterinarian clinic. He had been sick for a couple days; he couldn't hold down food, his bowels expelled only liquids, and he wasn't expected to make it through the night. He was dying from Parvo-Influenza. Nancy told me how she and her two daughters, Jessica and Brandi, had said their goodbyes. Nancy had taken "Chief's collar and hung it from her rearview mirror, "so he'll always be with me."

Without thought about an exchange or payment, I offered to send prayers and Reiki healing energies throughout the evening and night. When I first connected with "Chief" via the Distant technique, it felt as if he were already crossed over, but then suddenly, I felt his presence. He was very weak and, being I am also empathic, I physically picked up on just how bad he felt. My own stomach became nauseous, my head began to ache, and I could feel that "Chief's" body was drained and dehydrated. I knew he was connected to an IV of saline solution. I tasted the salt in my mouth and felt the liquid flowing through my body.

"Chief" was glad I had come to visit him in this way and he was openly accepting of the healing energies. As I worked with "Chief" on and off during the next six hours, his spirit became much stronger. He was able to start "communicating" with me and expressed his love for his owners; he also knew how much they too loved him. He wanted to go home.

At 2:00 am I wanted to call Nancy and tell her she'd pick up Chief in the morning, but the doubts crept in. "What if I'm wrong?" I went to bed.

It was about 10:00 am when I woke the next morning. Before starting my day, I checked the answering machine again. Nancy had left another message and her voice was full of joy and cheer. No way! I thought. I returned her call.

"We don't know what happened, but you can pick up Chief in a couple hours," Nancy quoted the veterinarian technician. Nancy went on to tell me that "Chief" will still need some rest and care, but he is fine now ... and she's bringing him home.
