The Spring of Eternal Life — Is Physical Immortality a Possibility?
By Bryant Meyers
Think of the images of spring. Solar light and warmth, melting snow, birds returning, grass is seen, flowers bloom, life returns, to nature’s room. The fresh windy air, what a delight to breathe, the aging, barren trees regrow their leaves. The cycle of birth, adulthood and old age, comes full circle back to the very first page. For the book of life is cylindrical in form, always with the hope of an Eternal Spring to be born. Ahh… Spring… beginning, resilient, elastic, growth, flowering, youth, redolence, warmth, light, freshness, joy, singing, chirping, colors, visions, water, greens, gentle winds, rich soil… Life. Yes.
By thinking of all these beautiful images of Spring and feeling them inside yourself, you have just begun your quest to become physically immortal in the flesh. Physical immortality is embracing this moment, finding heaven not through death, but right here NOW in Life. But to stop the wheels of aging while the seasons do keep changing takes considerable effort both mentally and physically.
Now for a healthy plant to grow in the springtime’s warmth, both a strong seed and a fertile soil are needed. Similarly to become physically immortal in the flesh, both the seed of Immortal thoughts and affirmations and the soil of right diet, clean water, sunshine, and fresh air are needed. A marriage must take place between mind and matter, thoughts and flesh, psychology and biochemistry.
Let us start with the mind. Most people are familiar with the placebo effect. For example, in one experiment a group of diabetics were given a sugar pill and told it was insulin. Many in this experiment who believed it was insulin actually created insulin. The thought gave rise to a neuropeptide which told the pancreas to make insulin. Do beliefs matter? You better believe it, if you don’t know, you had better pick up a book on the new science of PNI (Psychoneuroimmunology). It has been proven over and over that every cell in your body has neuropeptide receptors, not just the brain and nerve cells. All 70 trillion cells in your body respond and act according to neuropeptides, and neuropeptides are created by thought, and thoughts are created by YOU!
So my question to you is, how long do you choose to live? Or should I say, how long a life have you told your cells they will live. Have you created “70 year old neuropeptides,” “100 year old neuropeptides,” or “IMMORTAL neuropeptides”? Be honest with yourself. Do you know that people in Hunzaland toast each other with, “May you live to be 300.” They have one of the longest life expectancies of anywhere in the world.
Even if you don’t live forever, don’t you see how rational it is to declare and tell your cells: I AM PHYSICALLY IMMORTAL (Say this aloud three times—how does that feel?)?
For even if you only live to be 256 like Li Qing Yuen (1677-1933, one of the best and well documented cases of extreme longevity), or 500 years like the wandering ascetic he met, at least you are living to your full potential. For if you think you will live to be 80 years, your mind has programmed your body to start aging right NOW to that endpoint. Even if you eat well, the mind always wins and your self-fulling prophecy becomes real. Why not make the endpoint infinity?
Along with immortal thoughts, we must also create the perfect soil to nourish our mental seeds. I believe the perfect soil is created with a 100% raw food vegetarian diet. The reason for this is beyond the scope of this article, but it should go without saying that eating at Denny’s and Burger King everyday is not going to tilt the scales in your favor. I personally recommend people begin with organic and fresh foods, and try to eat as much raw food as possible. Begin where you’re at, for you have all eternity to change.
Top Ten Tips for Budding Immortalists (not in order of importance) |
- Publicly declare that you are immortal or at least daily affirm it to yourself.
- Do not celebrate birthdays and especially funerals. Never tell anyone your age. Once you stick to this, you will begin to forget how old you are.
- Read all the health books you can, especially books on preparing and eating raw foods.
- Daily practice Qigong, Tai Chi or Yoga.
- Stop rushing and get plenty of sleep. What is the rush, you have all eternity to do everything you want to do.
- Begin exploring Magnetics (mattress, shoe inserts). A strong magnetic field has been shown to dramatically increase the lifespan of laboratory animals.
- Take herbs such as aged Ginseng, Ho Sho Wo (Fo Ti), Gota Kola, Sasparilla, Licorice and the Goji Berry (or Wolfberry). These herbs are known for their life-extending properties.
- Meditate and touch the infinite part of yourself.
- Live with purpose. Begin doing what you love. This is important. If you are filled with purpose, then you will live forever.
- Learn 1000 jokes and start laughing more. Immortality is not a serious business.
